Wild Hearts Beats as One
Our hearts felt expectant and beat just a bit faster as the realization dawned on us that we were indeed just minutes away from entering one of South Africa’s most iconic and much loved National Parks. Imagine if you will, a place that is not only historic but so incredibly beautiful, teeming with wildlife, the Kruger National Park, the largest game reserve in South Africa and home to the infamous Big Five; lions, leopard, buffalo, rhino, and elephant. The landscape is as diverse as the inhabitants, ranging from forests, bushy veld, grassy plains, mountains, river beds – extraordinarily rugged and breathtaking.
The park straddles Limpopo and Mpumalanga provinces and with Zimbabwe to the north and Mozambique to the east, the Parks footprint covers in excess of 19,485 square kilometers. Conservation efforts have increased dramatically over the last few years to fight the scourge of poaching. This incredible feat is not for the faint-hearted and we can only but salute those on the ground and in the air, in the boardrooms and the like, who are hard at work to put actions in place to save this legacy for future generations.
Our policy has always been one of “treading lightly”, and now with access rights into Kruger, it’s a privilege and responsibility we hold very dear. Our guests experience the wild heart of Kruger up close and personal yet with a healthy dose of respect and care.
Our home away from home, and that of our guests is completely off the beaten track, silently unobtrusive and most importantly has little impact, if any, on the environment. We feel like ancient explorers in a magical wilderness, very aware of our place in “their “world.
We gather around the fire-place for sundowners and canapes while the Marimba band set the tone for the evening with colourful harmonies and lyrical melodies. While lazing around a fireplace we can hear the grunts of leopard across the riverbed, witness baboon antics in the trees above, watch quietly as elephant pass through. And although this is a wonderful treat for our guests, our staff enjoy the experience just as much.
Never have I felt so alive as I did sitting by the fireside listening to the night chorus of Kruger!
This experience encapsulates the heart of the Kruger. Bespoke experiences above and beyond – 100% unique, private and luxurious include air-conditioned spacious interiors, luxurious linens, soft furnishings and timeless elegance, en-suite private bathrooms with decadent alfresco hot showers, fine dining and lounging – true African elegance.
We leave as quietly as we arrived, but this is not goodbye…it’s a ‘till we see you again.
